Warwick Board Appoints Tax Study Panel

Warwick school board held a special meeting Sept. 5 to appoint a commission that will study the district’s current tax structure.

The commission members are Arthur Barr, Maria DiStravolo Elliott, Dennis Hess, Reid Lauderman, Georgia Lisinski, David Pegg, Priscilla Stoner, Brian Wiggins and Peter Stacy.

The group will meet for the first time Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Warwick School Board room. the meeting is open to the public.

“The recommendation of the commission will not be binding,” board member and treasurer David Pegg said.

The commission was formed to comply with Act 1, the state Taxpayer Relief Act of 2006. Its goal is to draft a referendum for the 2007 primary election asking voters whether they want to reduce property taxes by relying on other taxes on income.

Pegg said the persons named to the commission should have a knowledge of tax issues and represent the diversity of the community.

In personnel matters, the board approved the elections of Amanda Peiffer as part-time Spanish teacher at Warwick Middle School, Ruth Hazel as eighth grade science teacher at Warwick Middle School, Joanna Lynch as language arts and broadcasting teacher at Warwick High School, Adele Mousetis as part-time social studies teacher at the high school, Kathleen Wimmer as long-term substitute language arts teacher at the high school and Beryl Grasser as long-term substitute librarian at John Beck Elementary School.

Jamie Beyerle was named as a full-time learning support teacher at the high school.

The board also approved Dana Anderson as a field hockey associate coach.

Volunteer coaches are Jason Fuehrer as trainer and Stephen Shamberger for football.

In other business, the board accepted the resignations of Jennifer Dillon as a long-term substitute librarian at Beck School, Joseph Martin from the board’s finance and legal committee and Lori Zimmerman from the education committee.
