Boston University School of Management Moves Up in MBA Rankings By Recruiters in The Wall Street Journal

Posted on: Friday, 22 September 2006, 12:01 CDT

BOSTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The School of Management at Boston University announced that The Wall Street Journal has increased its national ranking of B.U.'s MBA program by four positions to 37th in the nation vs. 41st last year. The Wall Street Journal bases its ranking on an interactive survey of corporate recruiters conducted in conjunction with Harris Interactive.

Boston University School of Management continues to make a strong showing in all of the most significant business school rankings. It has placed well among the Top 50 MBA programs in the U.S. in BusinessWeek, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, and The Financial Times. In fact, The Financial Times rated the School #1 in America for "Alumni Career Progress." There are more than 950 U.S. Schools offering MBA degrees.

The School's consistently improving reputation is a result of its unique fusing of the art, science, and technology of business. "To develop more effective business leaders, we impart an understanding of and an appreciation for the "art" of business in combination with the "science," said Louis E. Lataif, Dean, Boston University School of Management.

"The art of business is the ability to think beyond data analyses, to consider potential outcomes not easily predicted by the numbers. Additionally, our focus on interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, business ethics, and learning in and learning about teams, is essential for business leadership. These skills are among recruiters' most important attributes in The Wall Street Journal's rankings," Dean Lataif stated.

The School's MS-MBA program, its "next generation MBA," enables highly motivated graduate business students to earn both a traditional Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in one of the various business disciplines, as well as a Master of Science in Information Systems. Importantly, the two degrees can be earned in the same 21-month period normally required to earn a full-time MBA, while also providing for a summer internship experience.

"Our MS-MBA program enables our graduates to bring a unique skill set that is needed in the marketplace: a true understanding of the strategic impact technology has on all other business disciplines," continued Dean Lataif. The School was rated 10th for academic excellence in Information Technology in a survey conducted by The Wall Street Journal last year.
