First Command Educational Foundation Awards More Than $130,000 in Scholarships

Posted on: Wednesday, 25 October 2006, 15:01 CDT

First Command Educational Foundation has awarded 85 scholarships nationwide totaling more than $130,000 to high school seniors and college students for the 2006-2007 school year, according to foundation officials.

"We are extremely proud to help young adults pursue their educational goals," said Vickie Mauldin, executive director of the foundation. "We have awarded more than $3 million in scholarships since the foundation was established in 1983."

First Command Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by the late Colonel Carroll H. Payne to provide college scholarships to children of active duty, retired and deceased U.S. service members. The foundation announced earlier this year that its thousands of dollars in scholarships are now available to all qualified students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. One of the foundation's goals is to grow the Carroll H. Payne Scholarship Fund endowment to $2.5 million over the next few years.

In 2001, First Command Educational Foundation became an independent non-profit entity with an expanded mission to significantly improve the short- and long-term personal financial success of individuals and their families. The foundation now offers a variety of financial presentations and professional development courses covering a myriad of financial topics. All services are provided free of charge, and worldwide.
