Loyola University Chicago Offers New, One-of-a-Kind MBA

Posted on: Wednesday, 8 November 2006, 12:00 CST

CHICAGO, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Loyola University Chicago's Graduate School of Business (GSB) has established a unique partnership with the Illinois Bankers Association (IBA) to offer a new specialized MBA in Strategic Financial Services (MBASFS). The degree is the first specialized MBA of its kind in the United States.

"Tailoring an MBA for professionals is a really important goal for us," says Abol Jalilvand, dean, Loyola University Chicago School of Business Administration. "We offer a unique MBA, focused specifically on banking and financial services, and also provide access to our new Center for Integrated Risk Management and Corporate Governance, a cross-functional, interdisciplinary center that emphasizes social responsibility and ethical leadership, which have been at our core for decades."

Loyola's accredited MBA program, ranked as one of the top 20 part-time programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, teaches enhanced management and analytic skills that are tailored to the needs of the financial services industry. Coursework for the MBA is a combination of online courses and classes on Loyola's Water Tower Campus, right off Michigan Avenue in the heart of the Gold Coast neighborhood.

Professionals who have taken courses from the American Institute of Banking (AIB), offered by the Illinois Bankers Association, have already earned credits toward Loyola's MBA in Strategic Financial Services. In addition, college graduates with relevant experience in financial services are not required to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) for admission to Loyola's MBA program.

"This is an excellent opportunity for us to partner with Loyola and offer both our members and the industry a tailored program to further their careers and earn an MBA," says Linda Koch, president and CEO of the IBA. "It is also an opportunity for employers in the industry to retain and reward their most talented employees by sponsoring their enrollment in the MBASFS program."

The program consists of 18 quarter-long graduate courses that include a specialization in finance. These courses are designed specifically for students in the MBASFS program, and will be taught by faculty in the Graduate School of Business of Loyola University Chicago and by representatives of the Illinois Bankers Association. Classes will be held on either Fridays or Saturdays. The courses offered by the Illinois Bankers Association are offered primarily online and may be taken as specified by the IBA in consultation with the Loyola University Chicago faculty. The first class for the program will begin in February 2007, with the first courses offered in the spring quarter of 2007. Please visit the programs Web site at http://www.luc.edu/bankermba .
