PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Pennsylvania's Lauder Institute and the Law School announced a new three-year, joint JD/MA in International Studies degree program. The program expands the Lauder Institute's current offerings beyond the well-respected MBA/MA joint degree program which combines a Wharton MBA with a Master's in International Studies started in 1984.
This unique program combines a prestigious University of Pennsylvania Law degree with the intensive language and cultural training of the Lauder Institute's Master's in International Studies -- all in three years.
"Students who complete this program will have an unparalleled advantage in the new global economy which is more competitive than ever," said Dr. Stephen J. Kobrin, Director of the Lauder Institute.
The program is designed for Penn Law students with solid foreign language skills who wish to improve and integrate these skills into their professional careers and combines their legal skills with real international experience. All course work can be completed during the three years of law school with students joining the Lauder Institute at the conclusion of their first year at Penn Law.
"Legal education in today's complex world requires that students graduate prepared to navigate easily across boundaries in law-related areas -- and even more so in the international arena," said Michael A. Fitts, Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. "The Penn Law/Wharton Lauder Institute program is a fine example of the cross-disciplinary education that is essential for law students."
The eight language tracks offered by the Lauder Institute include: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. The program also includes a two-month, in-country immersion program.
