Jennifer Dilley, a senior at Evangelical Christian School, has been nominated to compete in the national Principal’s Leadership Award (PLA) scholarship program.
The program is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Herff Jones Inc. funds the PLA program.
ECS principal Bill Doss announced the nomination, which places Dilley in the national competition. One hundred national PLA winners will be chosen this spring to receive a total of $100,000 in college scholarships.
“Jennifer Dilley is an especially remarkable young lady who aspires to be a leader of tomorrow,” Doss said. “She remains motivated to expand her thinking and knowledge of other people and their cultures and grows increasingly excited with the opportunities that graduation will present to her.”
High school principals from across the country may nominate one of their student leaders based on leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience and academic record.
“Every year, the nominees for the Principal’s Leadership Award are just phenomenal and Jennifer Dilley is no different,” said Gerald N. Tirozzi, executive director, NASSP. “She is an excellent example of what a true student leader embodies.”
Dilley, a Furman Scholar, serves as president of the ECS Creative Writing Club, field commander of the ECS marching band, activities coordinator of the French Club, member of the ECS concert band, ECS pep band, ECS swim team, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Student Leadership Institute, and was nominated to Who’s Who Among American High School Students.
Dilley instructs students in private French horn lessons as well as private swimming lessons, ran the Children’s Summer Reading Program at the Cordova Branch Library, serves meals to the homeless, volunteers at Bibles for China and at Bellevue Baptist Church with its Car Care Ministry, vacation Bible school and puppet ministry.
Dilley spent a week studying with the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy in Washington this past summer.
NASSP serves as the national voice for middle-level and high school principals, assistant principals and aspiring school leaders. NASSP promotes the intellectual growth, academic achievement, character development, leadership development and physical well- being of youths through its programs and student leadership services.
NASSP administers the National Honor Society, the National Junior Honor Society, and the National Association of Student Councils.
