Snead Likely Not a Finalist in Race

Jan. 5–Former Detroit Public Schools Superintendent David Snead appears to be out of the running to get his old job back.
The school board committee leading the superintendent search conferred with community members Thursday night before voting to send three of the four candidates to the next phase.
Connie Calloway, superintendent in Normandy, Mo., Detroit Superintendent William F. Coleman III and Doris Hope-Jackson, vice president of the school board in Harvey, Ill., are the likely finalists. But the full board still has to vote to accept the recommendation at a meeting scheduled for next Thursday.
Snead said he was disappointed but that he is fine with the job he now has as superintendent in Waterbury, Conn.
“I only submitted my application and came to interview on my merit,” Snead said.
Meanwhile, Coleman’s standing is again an issue. Board members were unsure Thursday whether they voted last month to grant Coleman an interview or to make him an automatic finalist. Attorneys were asked to review the recent vote.
If it turns out the board only voted to grant Coleman an interview, they will have to vote next week on whether he is a finalist.
