New Elementary Opens

North Star Elementary School students walked into a brand new school Monday.
North Star, at 9301 Ventura NE, is now educating about 420 students in 31 classrooms in the Northeast Heights.
Students had been sharing space this year at neighboring Double Eagle Elementary. The new school also includes a full-size gymnasium, cafeteria, media center and computer lab.
The Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation Department will share the gym after school hours.
Construction started on the $12 million school in November 2005.
