LeROY – Gary Tipsord, a longtime faculty member in the LeRoy school district, has been named superintendent.

He begins July 1, replacing Ed Coller, who is retiring.

Four candidates were interviewed for the position and Tipsord was chosen unanimously. Coller said the school board chose “far and above the best candidate for the position. His knowledge of the school district and community will be a real strength.”

Tipsord began teaching junior high science in the district in 1991, and moved to the high school science department in 1993. He has also been coach during his entire tenure in LeRoy.

Tipsord was named principal of LeRoy Junior-Senior High School four years ago. Before that, he was the director of student services for the schools.

Tipsord resides in rural LeRoy with his wife, Tammi, and four daughters.

He has a degree from Illinois State University and a specialist degree from Eastern Illinois University.

“The potential for both the school district and the community is great, and I look forward to being part of the growth and development for a long period of time,” Tipsord said.

He said the relationship between the city and the school district is vitally important, because both are reliant on the other.
