Jan. 11–CEDAR FALLS — The Cedar Falls Community School District is just weeks away from naming a new director of elementary education.

Elementary administrators, teachers and district officials are interviewing the four finalists this week. Adrian Talbot, the district’s personnel director, said about 18 candidates originally applied for the position, which is currently held by Clark Goltz. Most of the candidates came from Iowa, however a few out-of-state applicants did apply.

Goltz is returning to his home in Ossian this summer to become the program director of Celebration Iowa. He hopes to return to the district in July to help the new director make the transition.

The four candidates are:

— Dr. Anne Lundquist, who currently serves as the educational services director for AEA 267. She earned her doctorate of education in leadership from Drake University as well as a master’s in educational administration, an education specialist degree in curriculum and instruction and master of arts in art education.

— Cindi McDonald, the director of teaching and learning for K-12 in Waukee. She received her master’s in educational administration from the University of Northern Iowa.

— Dr. Diane McCarty, an associate professor in the Department of Education at Wartburg. She earned her doctorate of education in educational leadership and a master’s in education from UNI.

— Kevin Fangman, elementary principal at Crestview Elementary in the West Des Moines Community School District. He earned his master’s in education administration from Iowa State University.

All candidates have their administrator’s certificate from the state, which is required of anyone who would fill the position.

Superintendent David Stoakes is expected to make his final recommendation to the board later this month. The board will then have to approve the contract.
