Lawyer Sheryl N. Young was a young mom when she began attending Oklahoma City University School of Law in the late 1980s. Today she is a shareholder at McAfee & Taft in Oklahoma City.
"The Sumners Scholarship and the evening program at OCU gave me the opportunity to go to law school as a then single mother. Without the scholarship I would not have been able to do that," said Young, a 1990 graduate of OCU School of Law.
A new generation of candidates for the law school's merit scholarships will visit Oklahoma City on Jan. 25 and 26 for "High Ideals: 2007 Scholarship Preview." Prospective students from more than 15 states and over 30 colleges and universities will attend the event, which is by invitation only.
"We seek students who add to the diversity of experience, background and culture within our student body," said Tamara Martinez-Anderson, OCU School of Law assistant dean of admissions. "We are excited that the candidates attending this event reflect some of the best and brightest future law students in the country."
Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with current OCU School of Law students and faculty, as well as members of Oklahoma City's legal community. They also will spend time getting to know the city itself.
OCU is one of only two universities offering Hatton W. Sumners Scholarships, among the most generous law school scholarships in the nation. Since 1988, OCU has produced 78 Sumners Scholars who received full tuition and fees, book allowances and living stipends.
Each year more than 150 OCU School of Law students receive either full or partial scholarships. To learn more about scholarship opportunities at OCU School of Law, phone (405) 208-5354, e-mail lawquestions@okcu.edu or visit www.okcu.edu/law.
Oklahoma City University School of Law is fully approved by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. It offers full- and part-time degree programs and serves a diverse student body of approximately 650. Its 5,000 alumni practice in every state and several foreign countries.
