Feb. 2–COCONUT CREEK — A vo-tech school student stabbed an assistant principal and two security guards with a screwdriver on Friday when they tried to escort him off campus, officials said.

Coconut Creek Police arrested the Atlantic Technical Center student, an adult who was not immediately identified, said agency spokesman Anthony Avello.

The stabbing occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at the school for adults, 4700 Coconut Creek Parkway, said Broward Schools spokesman Keith Bromery.

The male student became disruptive in a business class, Bromery said, and the teacher called security.

When two security guards arrived to escort him out, with the assistant principal tagging along, the student pulled out the screwdriver. He stabbed the assistant principal in the back and both guards received minor cuts, Bromery said.

Paramedics treated the guards at the scene and took the assistant principal to a nearby hospital, Bromery said.

Administrators locked down the campus for minutes, but classes have since returned to normal.

Investigators are at the school gathering the details, Avello said.
