Funding Welcomed

Good news awaited staff and pupils last week when they returned to Romahapa School, about 20km south of Balclutha, for the start of the school year.
Principal Mark Preddy was thrilled the school would receive a capital works grant of $205,952 to cope with an increase in the roll. Having 35 pupils this year meant space was at a premium, he said.
The funding would go towards a new building that would include a classroom and a staffroom.
Plans had been drawn up and the work would be put to tender.
“We hope building can begin this term,” Mr Preddy said.
Children from the school had done well at secondary school, with every pupil who had attended Romahapa passing NCEA level-one studies, Mr Preddy said.
