Best Buy Co., Inc. has presented its 2007 Best Buy Teach Awards, totaling $4 million, to 1,300 schools nationwide. A $2,500 Teach Award has been presented to a classroom at each winning school for demonstrating how they use interactive technology to make learning more fun for students.

Fifty of these winning schools have each received an additional $15,000 Teach Award for exceptional use of classroom technology in their curricula. Each district of the 50 schools has been invited to apply for a $250,000 Teach Award that will be announced in May 2007.

Each winning school may use the Best Buy Teach Award to purchase technology at Best Buy to extend, expand, or enhance current classroom curricula. A list of all $15,000 and $2,500 Teach Award-winning schools can be found at www.BestBuy.com/teach.

“We firmly believe that technology can excite and engage students in the learning process, creating more valuable education experiences over time,” said Paula Prahl, vice president, public affairs, Best Buy. “The applications we receive year after year demonstrate that teachers and schools have such wonderful, technologically creative ideas, but needed funds aren’t available. Best Buy Teach Awards help to bridge that gap by helping schools access the interactive technology to make learning fun.”

The 2007 Best Buy Teach Award winners were selected from a pool of nearly 8,000 applications accepted from July through September 2006. All accredited, public and private nonprofit elementary, middle and secondary schools located within 50 miles of a U.S. Best Buy store were eligible.

Since 2004, the Best Buy Teach Award program has donated more than $13.5 million to 4,800 U.S. schools, serving as the cornerstone of its community and philanthropic work.

About the Best Buy Community Commitment

As a community partner, Best Buy works to encourage ideas and to confront challenges. In fiscal 2007, Best Buy and the Best Buy Children’s Foundation donated $30 million to its communities. Dollars were used to encourage local volunteerism by providing charitable gifts to organizations where employees volunteer, award annual scholarships to graduating high-school seniors, and support schools using technology to enhance learning through the Best Buy Teach Award program. The company also connects with the United Way to meet local community needs. Best Buy Children’s Foundation supports national organizations innovatively using interactive technology in youth education. In addition, Best Buy is committed to environmental responsibility. Last year, the company collected and recycled nearly 1 million pounds of used and obsolete electronic items though special mass collection events and everyday collection of cellular phones, ink jet cartridges and rechargeable batteries. www.BestBuy.com/CommunityRelations.
