Safe Sight Awarded AISD Bond Projects to Integrate State-of-the-Art Video Security Systems

Safe Sight, a Central Texas provider of intelligent security solutions for businesses and community infrastructure, announced today that it has been awarded three project contracts to install and maintain new video security systems at 12 Austin School District campuses, AISD’s Carruth Administration Center and Baker Center support services facility. The security initiative, funded by the School District’s 2004 Apple At Work Bond Program, was awarded by the AISD Board of Trustees last month.

Safe Sight will install new digital cameras and integrate IP-based surveillance systems with existing cameras and network infrastructure, reducing cost of installation and shortening time to completion. The company completed a similar project last year at nine AISD campuses, and this year’s expansion and the award to Safe Sight was partially based on its success.

Network-based video systems with IP cameras allow AISD to connect cameras directly to the District’s citywide fiber-optic data network and record video to a workstation anywhere on the network — even at different locations — while providing real-time monitoring and video clip searches anywhere on the network.

In 2003, the AISD Board of Trustees created a Citizens’ Bond Advisory Committee to recommend a program for the September 2004 Bond Election. Campus safety and security were high on the list of bond program priorities. The 2004 bond program approved a $21 million investment in security systems to be implemented at every campus, including cameras, card-access readers and alarm systems. The Board of Trustees has directed that this investment be completed by the third year of implementation of the bond program.

AISD Superintendent Pat Forgione said, “The Austin school district is firmly committed to providing a safe environment for our students, faculty, and staff while on campus or at any of our facilities. We’ve taken steps to ensure we are implementing the best security solutions available to us, and with the expert help of Safe Sight we’re in the process of installing a state-of-the-art solution that will meet our security needs now and scale to meet our expected growth within the district.”

Safe Sight will integrate new video security solutions at the following AISD campuses:

Allan Elementary School

Dawson Elementary School

Ortega Elementary School

Travis Heights Elementary School

Zavala Elementary School

Campbell Elementary School

Pease Elementary School

Pearce Middle School

Andrews Elementary School

Harris Elementary School

Pickle Elementary School

Clifton Career Development School

Said Safe Sight President Chris Hugman, “At Safe Sight, we’re pleased to have the opportunity to expand our working relationship with AISD. I believe we have earned the trust of the Austin community and look forward to continuing to provide effective ways to assist with AISD’s educational mission and protect students and property.”
