HISTORY: The newest full constituent member of the federal University of Wales.
ADDRESS: The business school is on the Allt-yr-yn campus, in a pleasant residential area. Buildings date from the 1950s. Residential students stay on a campus four miles away in the picturesque old Roman town of Caerleon.
AMBIENCE: An internationally recognised centre of innovation in art, design, film, and business.
VITAL STATISTICS: One of the largest providers of business and management education in Wales, offering programmes of study leading to University of Wales and professional qualifications. There is emphasis on social inclusion, accessibility and relevance to the economy. There are 150 to 200 part-timers and 60-80 full-timers every year. MBA was relaunched in October 2002 with an emphasis on complexity theory, innovation and team teaching.
ADDED VALUE: Runs four MBA programmes in southern China, and has franchise partners in Malaysia. The university has been recognised by the Knowledge Exploitation Fund as the leading educational institution in Wales, in enterprise.
EASY TO GET INTO? Part-time MBA applicants need a degree, or be over 25 with work experience.

INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS: Programmes moderated in Spain, Greece, Romania and China. GURUS: The school runs a programme of visiting speakers.
RESEARCH: No rating.
TEACHING: The QAA rated it “commendable” for quality and standards in 2002.
STUDENT PROFILE: 75 per cent of full-time MBA students are from overseas, mainly India, then Pakistan, China and Malaysia. Not an MBA for top executives but for middle managers seeking development. Average age on the part-time course is 33 to 34; 25 full-time.
