3 Candidates for Meridian School Superintendent to Visit

May 1–LAUREL — Three candidates for Meridian School District superintendent will visit the district this week, meeting with school staff and members of the public.
Each day’s visit will include a meeting with employees at 3:45 p.m. and a public meeting for everyone at 5 p.m. Both meetings will be in the Meridian High School multipurpose room, 194 W. Laurel Road.
The School Board is searching for a replacement for Burton Dickerson, who is leaving to lead the Quincy School District.
The finalists:
BETTE BULLOCK
VISITS MERIDIAN: today.
CURRENT JOB: superintendent of the 1,200- student Lake County School District in Leadville, Colo., since 2000. PREVIOUS POSITIONS: middle-level principal in the 85,000-student Jefferson County School District in suburban Denver, principal and special education teacher in Issaquah and a principal in Tahoma.
EDUCATION: doctorate from Seattle University, a master’s degree from Pacific Lutheran University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois.
OTHER: one of two finalists for superintendent in the Sequim School District. members of the public.
TOM CHURCHILL
VISITS MERIDIAN: Wednesday.
CURRENT JOB: Runs a tourism business in Hawaii.
PREVIOUS POSITIONS: superintendent of the 375-student Entiat School District (near Wenatchee) from 2002 to 2004, elementary school principal in Yelm and Snohomish, elementary school teacher in Yelm.
EDUCATION: superintendent’s credential from Washington State University, master’s degree from Pacific Lutheran University and a bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific University. 194 W. Laurel Road.
TIM YEOMANS
VISITS MERIDIAN: Thursday.
CURRENT JOB: assistant superintendent of the 2,200-student Mount Baker School District since 2005.
PREVIOUS POSITIONS: principal of Mount Baker High School from 2000 to 2005, including one year when he also served as the district’s operations director; high school teacher, coach and athletic director in Bellingham; teacher and coach in Shorecrest and Northshore. EDUCATION: superintendent’s credential and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Washington State University, principal’s certificate from Western Washington University. He is pursuing a doctorate at University of Washington.
