Jun. 12–A public hearing about the Bibb County school system’s consideration to close Burke Elementary School in Macon will be held at 6 tonight.

The meeting will be held at Burke Elementary, 2051 Second St.

Earlier this year Superintendent Sharon Patterson recommended a redistricting plan that includes closing Burke for the 2009-10 school year, combining students in that zone with Ingram-Pye Elementary School students.

Both schools are underpopulated, Patterson said.

By law, school officials are required to hold two public hearings in order to close a school.

Another public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, also at the elementary school.
