Dominican University and University Alliance to Transform Teacher Education With New Master's Degrees Online

Posted on: Tuesday, 19 June 2007, 15:00 CDT

TAMPA, Fla., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move that promises to transform teacher education and improve teacher quality in the U.S., Dominican University and University Alliance today signed an exclusive agreement to develop the country's most extensive graduate degree programs online.

Created in response to the federal No Child Left Behind Act, the programs initially offer Master of Arts in Education degrees featuring specializations in Elementary Education, Reading and English as a Second Language. The degrees are designed to help teachers respond to changing student demographics, as well as meet state and federal regulations by developing instructional strategies in key educational areas.

All three master's degrees allow teachers to immediately increase their knowledge and improve their classroom effectiveness without having to sacrifice time and money traditionally spent on campus-based programs. The innovative online format features streaming video lectures, virtual faculty office hours and other cutting-edge technologies available anytime, anywhere, 24/7. The degree programs are powered by University Alliance Online, America's largest provider of Internet-based education from the nation's leading accredited universities.

"We selected University Alliance Online because it was clear to us that they shared our commitment to scholarship, leadership and service, as demonstrated through their successful history of working with respected institutions of higher learning," said Sr. Colleen McNicholas, Dean of the Dominican University School of Education.

The three new degrees further expand University Alliance Online's educational offerings, which include master's degrees in Educational Administration and Curriculum and Instruction.

"University Alliance Online is transforming teacher education by combining the academic excellence of schools like Dominican University with the online convenience of today's technology," said Nathan M. Bisk, founder and chairman of University Alliance Online. "We are pleased to collaborate with Dominican University to offer their high-quality degree programs online so that a greater number of teachers can benefit nationwide."
