Perrysburg Board of Education Hires Thomas L. Hosler

Jun. 22–The Perrysburg Board of Education met in special session this morning and hired Thomas L. Hosler as the district’s new superintendent.

The vote was 5-0.

Mr. Hosler’s three-year contract will pay him $120,000 annually and have the same cost-of-living increases as other senior administrative staff, school board President Walter Edinger said.

“We’ve been negotiating the details of the contract, and it’s been a very easy negotiation both ways,” Mr. Edinger said.

Mr. Hosler, 39, has been superintendent of the Huron School District in southern Wayne County, Michigan, for seven years. The Huron district is about 40 miles north of downtown Toledo.

He and his wife, Robin, live in Sylvania with their four children. They intend to move to Perrysburg, where they lived in the 1990s.

Mr. Hosler will have an Aug. 1 starting date, but will be doing some transitional work in July with the current superintendent, Michael Cline.

The hiring of Mr. Hosler is the culmination of months of work for the school board.

The panel began its search in February after Mr. Cline announced he would leave at the end of the school year to become superintendent of the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center in Mansfield.

At one time, 19 candidates were interested in the Perrysburg position. By mid May, the board narrowed its field to six.

Mr. Hosler grew up in Toledo’s Point Place and is a 1986 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Toledo and is finishing up a doctorate at Wayne State University, Detroit.

He was a teacher and assistant principal at St. John’s Jesuit High School in Toledo, did a teaching stint at Arbor Hills Junior High in Sylvania, and was principal at Addison High in Michigan.
