4 East High Seniors Finish Museum’s Youth Program
Four East High seniors have graduated from the Utah Museum of Natural History’s Youth Teaching Youth program.
Claudia Reyes, Destiny Martinez, Francisco Naranjo and Jose Miranda have participated in the program since they entered Glendale Middle School six years ago.
Youth Teaching Youth is a science outreach and enrichment program that helps disadvantaged students develop an interest in science and how to impart that knowledge and enthusiasm to students at elementary schools and Glendale Middle School. YTY students go into classrooms and teach various science subjects to students.
Program coordinator Linda Gillis says one of the benefits is to give “participants an extra incentive to finish high school and go to college, sometimes making them the first in their families to do so.” Each of this year’s graduates plans to attend college in the fall.
