Three Utah students have been named winners in the 2006-07 Letters About Literature reading and writing program, sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and Target Stores.

The program encourages young people to read, be inspired and write back to an author — past or present — who has changed their view of the world or of themselves.

Utah winners include Carrie Gritton, Murray, who wrote to Marguerite Henry, author of "Brighty of the Grand Canyon"; Lindsey Curtis, Salt Lake City, who wrote to Andrew Clements, "Frindle"; and Gina Uhlstein, Salt Lake City, who wrote to Chaim Potok, "My Name is Asher Lev."
