BurdaYukom Publishing Successfully in Production With Current Version of Quark Publishing System

Quark Inc. today announced that BurdaYukom, one of Europe's leading corporate publishing companies, is successfully producing its approximately 60 regular publications with Quark Publishing System (QPS) after upgrading to the current version.

BurdaYukom Publishing is a leading corporate publishing service provider for business and consumer communications. Recently at the New York ASTRID 2007 Awards honoring outstanding achievement in design communications, BurdaYukom Publishing won a gold medal for "impact" executive magazine for Fujitsu Siemens Computers, a silver medal for "MAN forum" magazine for MAN AG, and design honors for "think:act," a global decision-makers' magazine produced by BurdaYukom for Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. Four gold medals and five silver medals were also awarded to the Munich-based service provider in the Best-of-Corporate-Publishing category.

Quark completed installation of QPS upgrades at BurdaYukom and the initial test procedure using existing files within a matter of days. This was followed by a two-week self-test by BurdaYukom before the switch to the new system was implemented across 100 workstations in only a single weekend. Within this process it was ensured that existing user settings, such as style sheets and queries were transferred and settings for external service providers were incorporated.

"Our editorial team was working with the old system on Friday and with the new one on Monday," said Wolfram Götz, head of IT at BurdaYukom Publishing. "The change-over to the new QPS went off without a hitch, despite the fact that we were also bringing our computers up to date with Intel Macs and completely renewing our font libraries. Quark provided us with outstanding support throughout the entire process; our editorial team, system administration, and graphics and production departments were given a 14-day training course in the new QPS and two weeks' production support. We are delighted with the outstanding service offered by Quark -- and with the new QPS, of course, with its truly impressive design and system architecture."
