Mike Schneider Appointed Anchor for NJ Today
Award-Winning News Veteran Signs On to Anchor and Report for NJTV’s Statewide Nightly News Program
NEW YORK and TRENTON, N.J., Sept. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Public Media NJ announced the appointment of Emmy award-winning newsman Mike Schneider to Anchor and Managing Editor of NJ Today, the statewide nightly news and public affairs program on NJTV.
NJ Today will replace the current NJ Today Summer Edition, which began broadcasting in July. NJ Today, still considered by producers as a work-in-progress program, covers news across New Jersey with a concentration on government and public policy, using taped stories and in-depth interviews.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to serve a community that’s always been a part of my life,” said Schneider. “My goal is to provide innovative reporting on issues that are relevant to New Jersey with an insider perspective.”
Schneider is a seasoned journalist whose news career spans over three decades of reporting for both national network and local Tri-State outlets. His career launched in 1975 as a news writer at WPVI in Philadelphia and went on to expand his role to reporter and anchor at network affiliates throughout New York and Pennsylvania, including WTAE in Pittsburgh and WCBS in New York. Since then, Schneider has worked for most every top-rated national news outlet from Bloomberg Television and Fox News to NBC News and ABC News. Most recently he has hosted CNBC Titans. Along the way, he has been awarded most every major news and broadcast honor, including three Emmy awards and accolades from the Associated Press, the Foreign Press Association, and the New York and New Jersey Press Clubs, among others.
“I am pleased that Mike will be sitting in the anchor chair for NJ Today,” said John Servidio, interim General Manager for NJTV. “Mike’s experience in network, cable and local news programs will provide New Jersey viewers with the quality and engaging nightly news program they want and deserve.”
“I look forward to working with Mike and have already had good interactions with the new executive producer Bob Males,” said Michael Aron, longtime senior political correspondent of NJN News. “I believe the future of NJ Today is in good hands, and I look forward to being a part of it.”
Schneider’s connection with the Garden State runs deep. Until recently, he was a longtime resident of Alpine, New Jersey where he raised his children and even ran for office in the state’s 5th Congressional District (NJ 5). Today, with his wife’s medical practice grounded in Bergen County and other family members residing in the Garden State, Schneider continues to be personally vested in the state and its topical issues.
There will be a press conference at the State House Annex in Trenton, NJ tomorrow, September 15 at 1 p.m. ET to formally introduce Mike Schneider and provide an update on the progress of the NJ Today program.
Formerly New Jersey Network (NJN), NJTV began broadcasting on July 1, 2011. NJTV is operated under an agreement with the state of New Jersey by Public Media NJ, Inc. (PMNJ), a non-profit affiliate of WNET, parent company of award-winning New York public television stations THIRTEEN and WLIW21.
