Penni Russell’s New ‘Soul Salvation’ E-Book Chronicles the Rewards and Challenges of Healing Rescued German Shepherds

September 28, 2011

PUYALLUP, Wash., Sept. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — In her debut e-book, Soul Salvation: Stories of German Shepherd Rescue (http://www.soulsalvationbook.com), dog trainer Penni Russell shares her perspective as a foster caregiver to rescued purebred German Shepherd Dogs, some of whom suffered from tremendous emotional baggage, and her experiences helping those dogs heal and begin new lives.

“According to the American Kennel Club’s statistics, German Shepherd Dogs are consistently among the top ten most popular breeds, but the unfortunate reality is that they are not suitable for everyone,” said Russell. “As a result, every year thousands of German Shepherds of all ages cycle through animal control facilities and rescue organizations. Often, their arrival is due to a simple lack of training or proper supervision, but many have suffered abuses or cruelty or have challenging medical needs.”

Soul Salvation (The Dog House Studio & Gallery Publishing, September 2011) contains stories from Russell’s more than 10 years of experience rescuing and rehabilitating German Shepherds and offers insight into the physical and emotional requirements of the breed.

Russell also describes her own emotional moments such as the moment her charges look back at her one last time before leaving with their new families. “It is at that moment of shared understanding that you know the meaning of life and what it means to give love without reservation or condition, and what it means to completely trust. It transcends species, is universal and it is the reason we survive,” she writes.

Previous articles written by Russell have appeared in Hoflin Publishing’s “German Shepherd Quarterly” and the “Northwest Shepherd News,” a publication of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America Working Dog Association.

Soul Salvation is available at http://www.soulsalvationbook.com as a downloadable PDF for $10.99. Buyers can also obtain it on compact disc for $12.99. Five dollars from the sale of every book benefits the American German Shepherd Rescue Association and one dollar from each sale benefits the Rimrock Humane Society.
