Children’s Book Gaining Mass Attention, Resonating with Families Affected by the Economy and Helping Kids Deal with the Changes
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — At a time when the economy has forced millions into unemployment and with home foreclosures at an all-time high, one ponders, how does this impact the children? The psychological blow to the parents is hard enough, but the added stress of explaining to their kids that there will be fewer presents under the tree this year, or not even a tree at all, is beyond tough.
This is why 2 Dads Publishing has launched a new children’s book that is just in time for the holidays. “2 Dads” who met in their children’s kindergarten class three years ago formed the company with the hopes of creating books that send positive and helpful messages to kids and parents dealing with adversity or who have fallen on hard times. Their first book launch under this umbrella is entitled “The Greatest Christmas Ever.” The story is addressing, relevant to the world today, the forgotten meaning of Christmas and the realities of the stress that the holiday brings, especially with the angst and pain experienced by many in today’s hard economic times. “The Greatest Christmas Ever” is a story that brings the holiday back into perspective and comforts children, knowing they are not alone and that “things” and “Black Friday Super Sales” are not as meaningful as the family bond and time spent together.
To give back, a donation on every book that is sold will be given to the National Coalition for the Homeless (http://www.nationalhomeless.org), who is committed to preventing, reducing and ultimately ending homelessness throughout America. “The National Coalition for the Homeless wishes to extend its appreciation for sharing such a wonderful and beautifully illustrated story that draws upon the life-shaping experiences of its author, translated through a story of strength and hope,” shares the Executive Director, Neil J. Donovan.
“Choosing the National Coalition for the Homeless as the organization to donate to could not have been easier,” says Sergio Liden, author of “The Greatest Christmas Ever” and co-Dad of 2 Dads Publishing. “They are helping those in need on a national basis. I was homeless for a short period when I was younger. Supporting this organization makes me feel like I understand now why I had to go through what I did then.”
The story is narrated by a young boy, celebrating Christmases two years apart in very different ways. Last year his family was unaffected by the economy and “life was good.” This year his father lost his job, their home went into foreclosure and now his family is living in a homeless shelter.
“The story provides the means for self-realization by the child on the greater issues of life, hence an understanding for the true meaning of Christmas,” states author Sergio Liden. “The book was purposely written in a simplistic style so that the youngest of children can stay focused throughout, though we are seeing the impact it even has on adults.”
“The Greatest Christmas Ever” story and illustrations offer a very contemporary and realistic understanding of today’s world much like Norman Rockwell paintings offered many years ago when the world was in a different place. The book’s underlying message of time spent with family, feeling loved and being shown love under the harshest circumstances is truly the greatest feeling and most precious gift.
“The outpouring of letters and emails thanking us is overwhelming,” said Zachary Zemby, the other “Dad” in 2 Dads Publishing. “We look forward in continuing to get the book distributed on a national basis and to help those families deal with these very difficult times.”
Although cost is higher, 2 Dads Publishing has decided to print in the U.S. in an effort to keep jobs here.
