Frisco Kicks Off Holiday Celebration with Santa Dash for Cash
FRISCO, Colo., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The Town of Frisco is hosting its annual Wassail Days, Dec. 3 – 11, 2011, a holiday extravaganza that would make even the North Pole jealous. Wassail is still at the center of Frisco’s annual holiday tradition, but new this year is Santa Dash for Cash, a one-mile fun run for the whole family with one little caveat – runners must dress in their best Santa gear to grab stockings full of goodies and cash at the end of the race.
Santa Dash for Cash will officially kick off Wassail Days. Other events during the week-long celebration include Wassail tastings and the Best Wassail competition, a chili cook-off, free tubing at Frisco Adventure Park, sleigh rides, visits with Santa, tree lighting ceremony, caroling, and the always-popular Breakfast with Santa. No matter how you choose to celebrate the holidays in Frisco, there’s something for everyone:
- 12/3: Santa Dash for Cash, Tree Lighting along Main Street and a Chili Cook-off at the Frisco Adventure Park Tubing Hill
- 12/7: Wassail Night at the Historic Park
- 12/8: Free Nordic Ski, Tubing and Sleigh Rides
- 12/10: Breakfast with Santa at Tuscato’s (register for this event at www.wassaildays.com)
- 12/11: Final voting day for the Wassail competition
To register for Santa Dash for Cash, runners should visit www.wassaildays.com. Once registered, participants will receive a Frisco Santa shirt, Santa hat, Wassail Cash – the official currency of Wassail Days that can be used at local restaurants and retailers – and a free pass for a half hour of tubing at the Frisco Adventure Park tubing hill. Proceeds from the Santa Dash for Cash will benefit Summit County Cares Project, which raises money to help clients of the Family & Intercultural Resource Center, Summit Community Care Clinic, Advocates for Victims of Assault and Social Services with heat assistance and medical care.
Whether you need to refuel after the grueling Santa Dash for Cash or if you’re simply a chili aficionado, don’t miss the chili cook-off at the Frisco Adventure Park lodge from 5-7 p.m. following Santa Dash for Cash. Amateur and professional chili chefs will serve their best chili recipes to win prizes and bragging rights.
Wassail Days wouldn’t be complete without the annual Wassail competition. Participating retailers along Main Street will welcome holiday shoppers with steaming cups of homemade Wassail, a delicious mixture of cider and spices. Shoppers can vote for their favorite Wassail recipe and enter to win a summer vacation getaway, complete with lodging in Frisco and tickets to the 18th annual Colorado Barbecue Challenge in June.
Wassail is a centuries-old holiday tradition – simply a wish “to be in good health and fortune.” There are many Wassail traditions throughout the world, but in the Town of Frisco, Wassail Days represents an old-fashioned family holiday in a charming mountain town. It’s a time for people to slow down, reflect on the season and share in good times and good cheer.
