North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Offer Basketball Camp Scholarships
RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives are providing students from across the state the chance to attend basketball camps on all-expense paid scholarships again this year. Young ladies can apply to attend the Kellie Harper Wolfpack Basketball Academy at N.C. State University, and young men can apply to attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives will send more than 50 students to the camps this summer.
“We are proud of the Touchstone Energy Sports Camps program and are pleased to provide these scholarships to North Carolina students year after year,” said Lindsey Listrom, community relations specialist for the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives. “This program gives students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity work closely with acclaimed NCAA Division I coaches and experience life on a college campus.”
Students who will be in sixth, seventh or eighth grade during the 2012-2013 school year are eligible to apply. Winners of the Touchstone Energy Kellie Harper Wolfpack Basketball Academy Scholarship will attend the overnight camp June 24-27 in Raleigh, and winners of the Touchstone Energy Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp Scholarship will attend the overnight camp June 16-20 in Chapel Hill. Campers must have permission from a parent or guardian to attend the camp and must provide their own transportation to and from the camp.
Kellie Harper has served as head coach of Wolfpack women’s basketball team for three seasons, and led the Western Carolina Lady Catamounts to win two Southern Conference championship titles before coming to Raleigh. Roy Williams is in his ninth season with the Tar Heels and has led the team to two national titles and three Final Four appearances. Campers will work directly with the championship-winning coaches to develop skills that will benefit them both on and off the court.
Applications for both camps will be accepted from January through March 30. The winners of the scholarships will be announced by May 1.
