Macy’s Sponsors Culinary Tours of South Florida
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — The non-profit Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History (MLFH) in Boynton Beach, Florida premiered in October 2011 its newest program the Culinary Tours of Florida which is known by the moniker Taste History(TM) Culinary Tours which is the first food tour of its style in Palm Beach County, Florida. Taste History(TM) specifically visits restaurants, eateries and markets in historic districts and/or buildings and travels to urban farms in Boynton Beach, Florida and Delray Beach, Florida and soon to launch tours of historic Lake Worth, FL.
Macy’s, which is celebrated for its culinary programs including the Macy’s Culinary Council, is sponsoring the Taste History Culinary Tours of Historic Delray Beach, Boynton Beach in Palm Beach County.
“The purpose of the Taste History Culinary Tours is to infuse food history, food culture, foodwaysand food tastings into facts about the historic districts and pioneer people of Delray Beach, Boynton Beach & Lake Worth, Florida (Palm Beach County) along with highlighting historic buildings and showcasing the influence of the agriculture industry,” said Lori J. Durante, Executive Tour Director for the Taste History Culinary Tours and founder/chief curator of the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History. Durante developed this new food history tour program. Taste History(TM) is a four-hour narrated gastronomy excursion of bus riding and four to six blocks of walking through historic districts for alternate visits to thirteen eateries, markets and urban farms for food history, food culture facts, foodways information and food tastings. Cuisines experienced include Soul Food, Caribbean, Brazilian, Turkish, Ancient Italian, American, Seafood, Organic Tea, Farm-To-Table and Fruits & Vegetables from Farms. To add, this culinary tour solely travels to The Home Store at Macy’s Boynton Beach, FL for experiences that comprise food demos followed by tastings. The Home Store is also known as The Cellar which is Macy’s famed culinary department that was established in 1971 at its flagship in San Francisco, California making the store a trendsetter of gourmet kitchenware. The Cellar concept eventually expanded nationally to Macy’s other stores including Macy’s Boynton Beach, FL.
Due to the exceeding popularity of the Taste History(TM) Culinary Tours, the first six-months sold-out. To meet the demand for the culinary tours, more dates have been added with the tours being expanded to consist of food sampling at a bed and breakfast, the Farmer’s Market and restaurants in historic Lake Worth, Florida in Palm Beach County. The Lake Worth tour will premiere on Saturday, April 14, 2012. The Taste History(TM) Culinary Tours of Historic Delray Beach & Boynton Beach, Florida is offered on the third and fourth Saturdays of each month. And, Taste History(TM) Culinary Tours of Historic Lake Worth & Boynton Beach, Florida is held on the second Saturday of each month, year-round, effective April 14(th).
These new food tours uniquely infuse historical facts about the State of Florida, Palm Beach County and the cities of Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Lake Worth.
The support from Macy’s will also enable the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History to initiate the development of the Taste History Culinary Kid Tours(TM). “This kids culinary program is inspired First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Campaign which promotes healthy eating to fight obesity among children,” says Lori J.
