Steve Woods Announces Candidacy for United States Senate
Falmouth CEO and Yarmouth Town Council Chair Joins Senate Race
FALMOUTH, Maine, March 7, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Steve Woods, Chairman of the Yarmouth Town Council and Maine business owner announced today that he will run for the United States Senate from Maine. Running as an Independent, Woods said he hopes to inspire change in the partisanship that has sharply divided the national political discourse and rendered government largely ineffective.
“With the announcement of Senator Snowe not seeking reelection, I feel a civic duty to step forward and make myself available to the people of Maine for this critical leadership role,” Woods said, adding that he empathizes with Snowe’s frustration over the political polarization and brinkmanship on Capitol Hill. “I plan to seek this national office as an Independent candidate so that the only party I will be indebted to will be the party of Maine residents,” Woods said.
With a wealth of experience in a diverse range of industries and having served local government in multiple roles, Woods said he is uniquely qualified to represent Maine voters.
“My background in local government leadership, combined with extensive local, regional, national and international business experience makes me a well-credentialed candidate to represent the people of Maine in Washington.”
As President and CEO of TideSmart Global, Woods built an industry-leading group of six companies, all headquartered on a 6-acre eco-friendly campus in Falmouth Maine. TideSmart Global’s flagship agency, emg3, is widely recognized as one of the most successful experiential marketing agencies in the United States, earning national awards and industry accolades for exceptional strategy, creative delivery and operational expertise. Continued growth has created numerous jobs for hard working Mainers.
Woods recently brought his experience as a former NBA and MLB player agent to the NBA D-League’s Maine Red Claws, becoming a part owner in October.
Together with his wife Katie and their three children, Woods lives in Yarmouth where he has served town government in a number of leadership roles, and currently serves as Chairman of the Yarmouth Town Council.
