Voice Plus Video at the Speed of Innovation: Vivox Acquires Droplet Inc. Adding Powerful Mobile Video Capabilities to Its Platform
NATICK, Mass., March 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Vivox Inc., a leader in social communications, today announced its acquisition of Droplet Inc., a developer of unique, patented technology to deliver a high-quality video chat experience on mobile networks. Vivox will integrate Droplet’s mobile video software into its VoiceEverywhere(TM) platform, which serves more than 80 million fans generating 3.5 billion minutes of voice chat each month.
The Droplet acquisition will augment Vivox’s cross-platform communication capabilities, strengthening its video chat solution for mobile while minimizing the bandwidth, processing resources and power needed from the mobile network and device itself. Consumers with mobile broadband network connections will be able to harness the new video technology through Vivox’s VoiceEverywhere platform.
“In acquiring Droplet, Vivox is building on its history of improving the communication experience for consumers and carriers alike,” said Rob Seaver, Vivox CEO. “We are committed to providing a high-quality video communications solution for consumers that complements our existing superior voice services.”
Vivox’s mobile applications include Bobsled by T-Mobile, one of the top five social networking applications in the App Store?. Consumers seeking a seamless voice plus video experience will be able to leverage the Vivox platform with video capabilities on tablets, including the new iPad(TM) debuting this month.
“The success of our Bobsled Calling applications, delivered in partnership with Vivox, clearly demonstrates Vivox’s ability to deliver innovative communication experiences to consumers that go well beyond a traditional phone call,” said Brad Duea, senior vice president of marketing, T-Mobile USA. “Vivox’s acquisition of Droplet demonstrates Vivox’s commitment to delivering the best experience to mobile users.”
The integration of Droplet technology into Vivox’s already powerful platform will provide carriers with the ability to offer new mobile video features and enable users to message or call across devices, countries, social networks and operating systems without straining the resources of the mobile network or user’s device. Vivox’s current offerings support both iOS and Android devices and seamlessly integrate with any mobile network or carrier.
“Vivox provides premier consumer communication offerings with best-of-breed technology to back them up,” Seaver said. “The strategic acquisition of Droplet will further propel Vivox forward with innovative all-in-one solutions, while offering mobile carriers the capability to expand the breadth of communication functionalities for every mobile device.”
Droplet is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vivox.
