Vancouver readership soars: Up 24 per cent

Globe and Mail readership continues to climb nationally: Attracting more
professionals, women and young adults

TORONTO, March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ – NADbank today released new readership
data from 2011 revealing that The Globe and Mail readership continues
to grow – with a 24 per cent weekday print readership increase in
Vancouver, a 21 per cent increase in Saturday readership and a very
impressive 52 per cent leap in online readership. This is the first
full year readership study since the 2010 redesign of The Globe and
Mail.

According to NADbank, The Globe and Mail’s weekday newspaper readership
is up 5 per cent year-over-year to 992,000, including a 24 per cent
increase to become the fastest-growing paid daily in Vancouver.
Saturday readership is up 3 per cent to 1,101,000 nationally, including
a 21 per cent increase in Vancouver.

“We are continuing to invest in the BC market – expanding our
bureau, adding on-the-ground reporters, and delivering quality local
content that matters to our readers,” said Phillip Crawley. “We’re
delighted that our efforts have impressed British Columbians, and
honoured to be the newspaper of choice for so many west coast readers.”

The Globe also enjoyed growth of 9 per cent in BC overall in weekly
combined print and online, including increases among the following key
demographics:

        --  Readers ages 25 to 54 up 11 per cent
        --  Managers and professionals up 19 per cent
        --  Readers with a household income over $100K+ up 19 per cent
        --  University grads up 16 per cent
        --  Female readership up 10%

The 2011 NADbank Study includes national readership data from 2011 in 48
readership markets.
