New Story Collection Shreds Pretensions of the American Man
NEW YORK, April 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Robert B. Kennedy has ground out a dozen years in the halls of power in the Philadelphia and New York areas. In 4 Short Stories his gifted imagination has conjured up a college dean, a millionaire, and a priest, or: some of the most explosive characterizations in recent memory. This may be fiction, but these stories resonate with the truth.
There is the college dean, Philbin, who beats the black house painter his wife seduced in “Corruption“; Darren McKenna, the mechanic in “The Mechanic and the Millionaire,” who conspires with the millionaire to exploit the rich man’s ex-wife by filming her sexual trysts; and Father Bob Monahan in “The Trials of Father Monahan,” who becomes intimate with a troubled teen in a narrative no less chilling for being all too familiar by now.
The author Kennedy claims no affiliation with America’s most famous family. “Like them, I grew up in an immense Irish Catholic clan…” (Kennedy is the eleventh of thirteen children) “…but there’s no direct relationship.” And the characters in the stories? “The characters are composites of many people I’ve known mingled with people I’ve read about and imagined,” he explained.
