Battles on Ice Rematch in Moscow! 4/27 – 29
NEW YORK, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — (http://www.myprgenie.com) — Russian-American Foundation (NY) in cooperation with Hockey Club Legends of USSR (Moscow) announce that the goodwill bilateral initiative “Battles on Ice” is coming to Moscow.
NY Fire Department Firefighters hockey team will play side by side NY Rangers Alumni: Ron Duguay, Mark Janssens, Chris Kotsopulos, Steve Vickers, Ed Hospador, Dan Blackburn, Paul Stewart, and Esa Tikkanen.
US Ambassador to Moscow, Honorable Michael A. McFaul stated, “While our nations may be on different sides on the ice during these friendly matches, outside of the arena we are working with our colleagues at EMERCOM to better ensure the safety of our citizens and other people around the world.”
NYFD Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano stated, “‘Battles on Ice’ celebrate all those who put their lives on the line for others and they demonstrate the solidarity of the American and Russian people against terrorism. We at FDNY are honored for this opportunity to represent not only our city, which is home to the largest Russian speaking community in the country, but our nation as well.”

“Battles on Ice” are supported by the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission and is part of the “American Seasons in Russia”.
In June 2011, Russian American Foundation launched “Battles on Ice” within 9th ANNUAL RUSSIAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL(R). Firefighters from EMERCOM and Hockey Club Legends of USSR came to NYC to participate in two charitable hockey games and to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11. As a result of the games, Russian American Foundation was able to donate $20,000 to the FDNY Widows and Children’ Fund in honor of 10th Anniversary of 9/11.
