WanderID is an identification service for people such as seniors with memory impairment, young children, and children with special needs such as Down syndrome or autism. Caregivers enroll a loved one on the WanderID website by uploading passport style photographs of the subject. Officers use WanderID via a simple smartphone application by taking the subject’s photo with their phone and uploading to the WanderID website. If there is a match of the uploaded person’s photo, officers receive a confirmation on their phone, and the caregiver is notified for connection and easy, cost effective return of the lost person.
“First responders in the Central Texas area can now use our smartphone application to easily identify lost or disoriented seniors and children enrolled in our database,” said Mary Haskett, co-founder of WanderID. “This launch not only promotes community safety and the cost efficient use of police, fire and EMS resources, but also caregiver peace of mind.”
