Profile America — Sunday, June 3rd. Two big festivals in the Midwest wind up today, highlighting National Dairy Month. In Harvard, Illinois, the annual Milk Days Festival is expected to have been enjoyed by 100,000 people. And in Little Chute, Wisconsin, the Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival expects 10,000 folks. These events feature parades, contests, entertainment and, of course, lots of dairy products. Dairy Month has been held since 1937 to note the importance of milk and dairy products to the American diet. Of all the foods we eat, dairy products top the list at 607 pounds for each of us annually. Americans consume an average of 22 gallons of milk and nearly 33 pounds of cheese each year. Profile America is in its 16th( )year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.
