EQA Partners Appoints Former Governor of the Federal Reserve Dr. Randall Kroszner as Partner and Chief Economist
STAMFORD, Conn., June 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — EQA Partners, an alternative investment manager whose expertise lies in currencies and traditional global macro strategies, today announced the appointment of Dr. Randall Kroszner as Partner and Chief Economist, a new position. Dr. Kroszner previously served as a Governor of the Federal Reserve System from 2006 to 2009 where he chaired the Fed’s Committee on Supervision and Regulation and the Committee on Consumer and Community Affairs. He will continue to serve as the Norman R. Bobins Professor of Economics at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he has been teaching since 1990.
“Randy’s experience as a macro-economist, a Fed Governor and a member of the Council of Economic Advisors gives him a unique perspective on the policy debates driving capital flows and currency markets,” said Andrew Alper, Chairman and CEO of EQA Partners. He added, “I’ve known Randy for many years and find him to be one of the clearest, most articulate economists analyzing central bank policies. As policy debates play out, especially in Europe, there will be significant opportunities in currency markets. Randy’s insights and knowledge of how policy is created will help us take appropriate risks and navigate these markets.”
Dr. Kroszner will be instrumental in the firm’s portfolio construction process through his advice and consultation on currency and macro investment themes. He will work closely with Richard Breslow, EQA’s Chief Investment Officer.
“I have long respected EQA’s successful navigation of the financial crisis and am thrilled to be joining this proven investment team,” said Dr. Kroszner. “I believe well-constructed currency strategies can enhance traditional portfolios by improving diversification, risk management and liquidity. EQA’s disciplined approach to risk management utilizing highly liquid strategies and their record of delivering positive returns, uncorrelated to traditional and alternative investment vehicles, differentiates them from their peers. I look forward to collaborating with EQA to educate investors about these strategies.”
Prior to his post at the Federal Reserve, Dr. Kroszner was a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2001 to 2003, where he was involved in a wide range of domestic and international economic issues. He also is currently on the Board of Directors of the Financial Management Association and on the Board of Advisors of the Paulson Institute. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Systemic Financial Resilience and is involved with the Gates Foundation’s initiatives on promoting access to financial services for the poor in emerging market countries. Dr. Kroszner received a Sc.B., magna cum laude, from Brown University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
