New Braunfels says, “Yes you can have a great time tubing here — jump into the Guadalupe River and the Comal River for your summer vacation!”

June 13, 2012

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — In New Braunfels, the Guadalupe River and Comal River are flowing, tubers can enjoy the beverage of their choice, and there is less litter and cleaner, safer rivers for a great summer vacation.

“We have good flows in both rivers this year and we’re making it super easy to make the adjustment to two things that have changed,” said Judy Young, convention and visitors bureau director. “River-friendly, non-disposable containers with your beverage of choice are used within the New Braunfels city limits. That is from Gruene Bridge down on the Guadalupe River and on the entire Comal River. For safety reasons, tubes no more than five feet are used on the Comal River. You can find the appropriate non-disposable containers here at your favorite outfitters, convenience stores, grocery stores, lodging and campgrounds.”

Nothing has changed if you typically spend your vacation time on the Guadalupe River above Gruene Bridge, which is the destination for many people who use the outfitters and campgrounds along its banks from Canyon Lake to the bridge that crosses it at the city limits in the Gruene Historic District.

“We have been entertaining Texans for decades and we have everything needed for a great vacation – a wide range of accommodations and restaurants, a big variety of family-friendly attractions like the Guadalupe River, the Comal River, Schlitterbahn, Texas Ski Ranch, Natural Bridge Caverns, the Wildlife Ranch, historic downtown, lots of new restaurants, shops and live music venues,” she said. “For younger visitors the playscapes, pool, paddle boats and train at Landa Park, our new skate parks, and the McKenna Children’s Museum are available. Teenagers enjoy the river, Schlitterbahn, the extreme sports at the Texas Ski Ranch, and caving at Natural Bridge Caverns. Everyone can enjoy our live music scene with the iconic Gruene Hall. Live music abounds in the dance halls and honky tonks in the area.”

Young says no other vacation destination has as much to offer for a family-friendly, budget-friendly vacation. She also noted that New Braunfels is an easy drive right off IH-35 between Austin and San Antonio – two great day trips for visitors who can stay in New Braunfels where the accommodations are less expensive and the environment is family friendly, yet still enjoy the attractions both those popular destinations offer, too.

“You can’t find that anywhere else,” said Young. “So, we’re confident that as people experience a great vacation time, word will continue to spread that nothing really has changed except we’re going to have cleaner, safer rivers.”

Changes have already been made to improve the visitor vacation experience – more trash containers, recycling stations, more park rangers, and more signage to help visitors keep disposable litter out of the rivers and encourage the use of non-disposable containers. There’s a new website, www.watertherules.com, with information on what is allowed on the rivers and comprehensive maps to help visitors find restrooms, public accesses to the river, parking, etc.

New Braunfels is ranked as one of the state’s favorite vacation destinations with more than a million people visiting the area to enjoy the Guadalupe River and Comal River every summer.
