Federal Apprehensions for Immigration Violations Declined While Arrests Tripled, BJS Report Finds — The Bureau of Justice Statistics recently released the Immigration Offenders in the Federal Justice System, 2010 report, finding that apprehensions for immigration violations dropped to 516,992 in 2010, the lowest level since 1972, from a peak of 1.8 million violations in 2000.

Congressional Briefing on Children Exposed to Violence Task Force, July 25 — The Department of Justice will hold a briefing from the Attorney General’s Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence (Task Force) on Wednesday, July 25 at 2 p.m. EDT in the Rayburn House Office Building Room 2237. The briefing features task force co-chairs Joe Torre, former major league baseball player and manager and founder of the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, and Robert Listenbee, Chief of the Juvenile Unit of the Defender Associations of Philadelphia. Task force members will highlight lessons learned from experts and community members during four public hearings held in Baltimore, Md., Albuquerque, N.M., Miami, Fla. and Detroit, Mich. NCVRW Nomination Period Opens — Nominations are being accepted for the 2013 National Crime Victims’ Service Awards. Each year, OVC recognizes extraordinary individuals, organizations, teams, and programs demonstrating outstanding achievement in supporting victims and victim services. The recipients are honored at the National Crime Victims’ Service Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC, in the week prior to National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW).
