Flashfoto Launches FacePoints, 68-Point Facial Recognition Technology

August 16, 2012

LOS GATOS, Calif., Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Flashfoto, a Los Gatos-based background removal and facial detection company, launched FacePoints today in Private Beta for developers, introducing a more advanced technology than any other facial detection technology available on the Internet through an easy-to-use API.

CEO Aaron Markham commented on the significance of this advance in the marketplace, “Of all the API’s that we have developed at Flashfoto, we are particularly excited about the launch of FacePoints, which will surpass Face.com’s data set, taking the number of features detected up to 68 to clearly identify the eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth and jaw line.” An example 68 FacePoint output is depicted below. Developers now have the ability to process automatically and return a mapped image as well as the JSON coordinates for all points which are the following:

Unique Points:

  • Mouth – 19 unique points
  • Eyes – 10 unique points (5 per each eye)
  • Eyebrows – 12 unique points (6 per each eyebrow)
  • Nose – 12 unique points
  • Jaw – 15 unique points from ear to ear, outlining the full jawline

This technology will provide significant advances in facial features detection for mobile, social media, and photo apps. Developers shut out from the recent acquisition and elimination of Face.com’s open API will be able to immediately use Flashfoto’s FacePoints for superior face and facial features recognition.
