Plastic Surgeon Donates $63,000 Worth of Services in Support of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children

September 5, 2012

TORONTO, Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Dr. Jerome Edelstein, head plastic surgeon at aesthetic medical practice, Edelstein Cosmetic, has donated $63,000 worth of services to SYLEBRATION, an event that will raise money for the Music Therapy Program at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

On Wednesday, September 12, 2012 the first annual tribute concert is being held in memory of guitarist and legendary pioneer in the electronic music scene, Sy Benlolo. Better known to fans as Sy Sylver, Benlolo passed away earlier this year. SYLEBRATION will raise money for the hospital’s Music Therapy Program, enabling the healing power and spirit of music to carry on in his name.

“As a pianist myself I know firsthand the importance and power of music. As a doctor, I appreciate its curative and therapeutic properties. This event unites my passion for the arts and medicine,” Dr. Jerome Edelstein states. “If I can give people something that improves their appearance to make them feel better about themselves and raises awareness for this important cause, I’m happy to be as generous as possible to that end.”

Music therapy is the skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. The Music Therapy Program at SickKids ensures the delivery of a more holistic approach to caring of patients in the palliative and cancer programs at the hospital. The tribute concert will assist in the expansion of Music Therapy services to other patients receiving care at the hospital, including those receiving organ transplantation, neonatal intensive care, adolescent medicine and more. The tribute concert also assists in funding the purchase of needed musical instruments and equipment, as well as supports the internship program, one of the few in Canada that provides specialized paediatric training to a new generation of music therapists.
