Stunning Black Beauty ebook for Apple’s iPad Released

October 2, 2012

OCEANSIDE, Calif., Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Red Cat Dreams announces the ebook release for iPad of Anna Sewell’s beloved classic about a horse named Black Beauty. Featuring Cecil Aldin’s timeless illustrations, the enhanced ebook also celebrates the 100(th) anniversary of the edition that first appeared in 1912. Complete with all 18 restored illustrations by Cecil Aldin, this classic can be downloaded on the iBookstore. Readers will be able to share their stories and memories of Black Beauty on the special webpage, FriendsOfBlackBeauty.com.

Jeffrey Shepard, Cofounder of Red Cat Dreams, says: “When people first learned we were restoring Black Beauty for iPad, they felt a passionate need to tell us about when they first read the book or had a parent or grandparent read it to them. We decided to create social links, including a special webpage, for people to share their stories and memories and to welcome those reading Black Beauty for the first time.”

iPad users will be able to explore this perennial classic — complete with striking illustrations — in a version that honors the vintage feel of the book and preserves the readability often missing in modern ebooks — and more. Utilizing the best of today’s technology, the book gives the reader an experience that is even more vibrant today than when it was when first published.

Writing only one book in her lifetime, Sewell’s book was to become one of the most beloved children’s classics of all time. With this book, Sewell broke new literary ground by telling the story of a horse’s life in the form of an autobiography. Few people know that Black Beauty was not written to be a children’s story. Sewell’s goal was to encourage kind treatment, sympathy and an increased understanding of horses. In keeping with Anna Sewell’s original vision of promoting kindness and compassion, $1 of the $4.99 ebook price will be donated to support groups rescuing abused and neglected horses for each copy sold through December.

“The iPad allows this classic horse story to reach a whole new generation of readers,” said Shepard. Upcoming titles from Red Cat Dreams include a Spanish-language version of Black Beauty, followed by the books of Jane Austin, The Secret Garden, and Around the World in 80 Days.

Black Beauty will cost $4.99 to download from the iBookstore. The unabridged book is readable in both landscape and portrait mode and is retina-display ready of for the latest generation iPad.
