ATLANTA, Ga., Jan. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — There’s an alternative to everything. Since this blog is really about embracing a healthier lifestyle, I’ve decided to check out different alternative therapies and blog about these techniques in 2013.
I’m not a novice to alternative therapies but want to explore what else is out there out of curiosity. Seeing a chiropractor has kept my shoulder pain at bay (injury from falling on ice!). The physical therapy and strong painkillers prescribed to me wasn’t working, so my husband suggested I try a chiropractor. Ten years later, I continue to get regular chiropractic adjustments because it really does make me feel better.
One of the best things I learned from my chiropractor? She suggested I sit on an exercise ball at my desk. At first I was like ‘what?’ Since I’m of short stature, it’s always been hard to sit on a regular office chair for an extended period of time. The exercise ball keeps my posture aligned and voila!, no back pain after sitting a long time. There are fancy exercise ball chairs out there, but since I try to be frugal, I opted for a regular $20 exercise ball from Walmart. It can withstand weight up to 350 pounds. Here’s a stock photo I found – exactly what I have used for about 2 years now.
Here’s a list of some common alternative therapies available in the U.S.:
* Colonics (not sure about even trying this one)
* Feng Shui
* Homeopathic treatment
* Massage therapy
* Naturapathic Medicine
An interesting note: Integrative medicine…combination of traditional medicine and alternative therapies…is a growing business here in the U.S. Chiropractic, massage therapy and acupuncture are the three therapies most-covered by insurance companies, followed by naturopathic medicine.
And I need some assistance to help with this experiment. Any volunteers? Pretty please? You can comment or email me at Brigitte.Cutshall@gmail.com for more info.
