Worth A Thousand Words: Three High School Seniors Awarded $1000 in CAAASA/Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost Photography Contest
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Congratulations are in order for three California public high school students recently named as the winners of the third annual “Education for All” photography contest, a collaboration between the California Association of African-American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA) and Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost LLP (F3). David Carter from the Culver City Unified School District and Ingrid Vazquez and Andrea Fairbanks, both of the Vista Unified School District, will each receive a $1,000 education award for their winning entries in the “Education for All” student photography contest.
High school seniors from across the state were invited to submit photographs depicting three central themes: Diversity, Collaboration, and Achievement. In addition to their photographs, student artists were required to submit a short essay explaining how their work illustrated the thematic focus of the contest. CAAASA leaders assessed these submissions according to originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. The purpose of this contest is to promote student achievement, public education’s commitment to the arts and a rounded education and to assist public high school graduates with the increasing costs of higher education.
“These three winners’ abilities to convey concepts both visually and linguistically exceeded our expectations,” said CAAASA Executive Director Dwight Bonds. “In addition to helping student artists hone their aesthetic focus, we wanted to see them articulate this focus. The ability to effectively communicate will help them in their future educational and professional endeavors.”
“It seemed only natural that we would include a photography contest in our firm’s Celebrate Success Series,” said Jan E. Tomsky, F3 Managing Partner. “Our mission is to help our clients achieve their mission. Student growth and achievement is at the heart of everything that our clients work toward. In order to help advance this goal, we offer four education awards in our Celebrate Success Series, including the Going Green! Golden Bell Award, the Why Education Matters essay contest, and the Celebrate Success art education award.”
“Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost is the model for an excellent private- and public-sector partnership. Assisting districts by offering education awards and support to our students is right on target. We are most grateful for their support,” said Mr. Bonds.
