Entertainment Veteran James Ackerman Named as Executive Chairman of Propeller
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Nashville-based Propeller will open a Los Angeles office with seasoned entertainment executive James Ackerman at the helm. A long-term Propeller shareholder, Ackerman has served on the agency’s board of directors for the past seven years. This new role will significantly increase his day-to-day involvement with the organization.
Ackerman, who is based in Los Angeles, most recently operated as the president and CEO of the Documentary Channel, leading a turnaround of the company from 2009 until 2012, resulting in the successful sale of Documentary Channel to Participant Media. In addition, Ackerman was instrumental in negotiating Propeller’s recent affiliate agreement with public relations firm Rogers & Cowan, as AOR for publicity services.
“We are thrilled to be opening an office in L.A. with James Ackerman anchoring our presence there,” stated Propeller President and CEO Dan Merrell. “James has been an asset for Propeller as a shareholder and board member and to have him representing Propeller to the Hollywood community will prove invaluable.”
Ackerman will open Propeller’s new office in the ROAR Building, at 9701 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills, where it will share a space with Ackerman’s existing media fund Spinnaker Media LP.
“Dan and his team have established Propeller as a leader in reaching and effectively marketing to family and faith-friendly audiences,” said Ackerman. “As the entertainment community creates more content specifically intended for these audiences, it makes sense for Propeller to establish a meaningful presence in Los Angeles. I am appreciative and honored that the Propeller team would ask me to lead this initiative as their new executive chairman.”
