Carolina Panthers Head Coach and GM, Former NFL Players and CBS Sportscaster James Brown to Enable Coaches to Develop Young Men of Character

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Verizon Foundation and A CALL TO MEN – a leading national violence prevention organization — will bring together hundreds of middle school, high school, college and community coaches for domestic violence prevention training, A Call To Coaches: Your Voice Counts, on Thursday (March 14).

The half-day interactive seminar is designed to equip coaches with resources to prevent abusive behavior by promoting respect, non-violence and healthy relationships. Participants will leave the training with a list of action items and resources to continue the conversation with their teams and in their communities.

The training will serve as a continuation of Verizon Foundation’s newly launched Your Voice Counts campaign (www.verizonfoundation.org/yourvoicecounts), which seeks to engage and empower men to speak up and be part of the solution to end domestic violence. The training materials will soon be available for public download on the Your Voice Counts website.

WHY: Domestic violence is one of the
     most critical public health issues,
     resulting in serious, long-term health
     impacts and devastating effects on
children and families. According to a

and nearly 1 in 7 men in the U.S. have
experienced severe physical violence by an
intimate partner at some point in their
     lifetimes. The Verizon Foundation is
committed to engaging men in a dialogue to
help end domestic violence and promote the
     development of healthy, safe communities.
