PURE Reflections: Beauty Reimagined. Friday, April 12th
How Body Image impacts the identities of girls and women: one-night-only theatrical dance performance, this Friday in NYC
NEW YORK, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — PURE Reflections: Beauty Reimagined, a theatrical dance performance about girls and women confronting and overcoming the obstacles to cultivating a healthy body image, on Friday April 12, 2013 at 7:30pm at A. Philip Randolf High School in NYC.
Twenty million women suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life(()) and ten million women battle anorexia or bulimia.(()) because of the beauty myth(()), an obsession with physical perfection that traps the modern woman in an endless spiral of hope, self-consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society’s impossible definition of “the flawless beauty.”
World renowned belly dancer and P.U.R.E. (Public Urban Ritual Experiment) Co-Founder and Artistic Director, Kaeshi Chai draws upon influences as diverse as comedy improvisation, mime, contemporary, hip-hop, world-fusion belly dance, as well as her own personal struggles with self empowerment to shed light on this dark corner of the human experience. The result is a fast-paced, entertaining and uplifting show featuring a cast of 18 adult and teen dancers and the live vocals of Kristin Hoffmann. PURE Reflections serves as a living, breathing testament to the healing power of art.
The workshop and performance were an emotional rescue. PURE is an experience in dance that should be seen around the world to help inspire self- love, acceptance and growth in women.
