The World’s Largest Phrase Thesaurus Launched
LONDON, April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — After 10 years in the making, PhraseHQ.com, the world’s largest and most comprehensive phrase thesaurus, is now live.
The phrase thesaurus includes over 50,000 idioms, proverbs, sayings, short quotes, catchphrases, slogans, cliches, metaphors, similes, rhyming slang and jargon. An additional 1,000 phrases are being added every month.
During trials the service was used by authors, journalists, copywriters, marketers and advertising agencies to create fun headlines, add interest to prose, come up with advertising slogans and find unusual domain names. It has also been used by non-English students as a learning tool.
The intelligent search engine finds phrases both by matching keywords and by meaning. For example a search on the word ‘money’ finds phrases such as “a real money spinner” and ” a fool and his money are soon parted”, as well as associated phrases like “fool’s gold”, “the $64,000 question” and “cash rich, time poor”.
“PhraseHQ is to phrases, what Roget’s Thesaurus is to synonyms”, said Miles Galliford, CEO. “We created it because phrases make up such an important part of our language and the way we communicate, but there is no single source, either online or in print, where you can search across all types of phrases”.
PhraseHQ has been designed so that it can be viewed on a desktop, tablet or smartphone.
