NEW YORK, May 7, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — The New York Yankees are on the roll this season with a record of 18 – 12 (win – loss mark), with just 30 games in the book. In their last three games against the Oakland Athletics, they Yankees went 1-2. These games were held at the Yankees Stadium in the Bronx. In the first game held last Friday, the Athletics defeated the Yankees with a score of 2-0. Athletics’ pitcher A.J. Griffin led the way in the first game as he shut down the Yankee players. Adam Rosales delivered a homer on the first pitch of Yankees’ CC Sabathia that led to the Athletics’ victory.
For the second game played last Saturday, the Yankees got redemption winning over the Athletics with the score of 4 to 2. For the Yankees, it was Phil Hughes who shut out the Athletics’ batters. He produced 8 shutout innings with only 4 hit balls. This is the first win for Hughes wearing a Yankees uniform. For the Athletics, it was Bartolo Colon who pitched. This was his 6th start for the early season of the A’s and was his first loss. In his pitching, Yankees’ Lyle Overbay and Chris Stewart made homers to give the Yankees the edge.
For the third game between two teams, the A’s started strong against the Yankees, but later in the game, the Yankees rallied to tie. However, Yankees’ Boone Logan allowed the go-ahead homer by Josh Donaldson. Yankees rally fell short as they lost again to the A’s for the second time in three days, 5-4. This was also an interesting game between Grant Balfour of the A’s and Vernon Wells of the Yankees in which the game ended with Wells as the batter and preserved the score. Overall, the Yankees went 7 wins in the last 10 games in which all of the games were held in the Yankees’ home stadium. Also, the Yankees missed the five regular starters for the game and are listed on the disabled list.
The New York Yankees will start their away trip in Colorado by facing the Rockies in three games followed by a three games stint in Cleveland against the Indians. The Rockies are coming from two losses and one win against the Tampa Bay Rays in the last three days as well. On May 14th, the Yankees will return to New York to face the Seattle Mariners for three games. Later that week on May 17th, the team will play the Toronto Blue Jays for another three game stint.
Currently, Robinson Cano leads the team in batting average with .325, 8 home runs and 19 RBI’s. Travis Hafner leads in OPS with .999. Brett Gardner leads the stolen bases category with four. CC Sabathia leads the team in Innings Pitched (49.0) and Wins (4). Mariano Rivera has 11 Saves and leads the team and Hiroki Kuroda leads the team in Earned Run Average with 2.25.
For Yankees fans, this seems to be a good start for the team and if they continue to win, they can once again reach the playoffs and even advance deep in the playoffs.
