Dr. Graw of HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care Center Addresses Maryland Parks and Recreations Directors
ANNAPOLIS, Md., May 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Dr. Robert G. Graw, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of Righttime Medical and founder of HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care Centers, shared his expertise at a breakfast meeting with the Board of Directors of the Maryland Association of Parks and Recreations on the subject of Concussion Awareness at their annual conference in Ocean City April 16(th), 17(th), and 18(th).
The theme of this year’s conference is “Celebrate Maryland; Connecting People and Places.” Keeping facilities safe was part of the meeting’s agenda. Each day on the sports field, student athletes receive head injuries that may lead to a concussion. Recently the state of Maryland, passed a law (general code 14-501) which requires children under 18 who have suffered a head injury while playing on a state or county field be removed from play for evaluation. In order to return to play, they must obtain written clearance from a licensed healthcare provider trained in the evaluation and management of concussion.
Dr. Graw has become a leader in the medical community committed to educating parents, educators, athletic trainers, athletes and the general public on the prevention, treatment, signs and dangers of concussions and traumatic brain injury. He founded HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care to offer concussion education and pre- and post-injury cognitive assessment testing. .
Dr. Graw is also Chief Executive Officer of Righttime Medical Care, consisting of nine facilities providing immediate medical care, located in Anne Arundel, Howard and Montgomery counties. The Centers provide follow-up medical care to those students who are suspected of sustaining a concussion while playing a sport and are open seven days a week, 7:00 a.m. until midnight.
